BIOGRAPHY OF THE PRESIDENT

Born on December 12, 1985, in Algiers.
He grew up in the El Mohammadia district, where he attended Kourifa Rachid Primary School, followed by Djamarik 2 Primary School. He continued his education at Abdelhamid Bouhadji Middle School before attending three high schools in succession: Tawfik El Madani in El Mohammadia, Mohamed Boudiaf in Dar El Beïda, and finally Mohamed Hadjres High School, where he earned his baccalaureate in 2004.

Education

Abdeldjalil began his higher education at the École Supérieure de Commerce of Algiers. During his first year, he initiated steps to continue his studies abroad and was admitted to the University of Cergy-Pontoise in France. There, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management, followed by a Master 1 in Quantitative Economics, with a focus on Economic Analysis.

He was then admitted to the IAE of Saint-Étienne, where he completed a Master 2 in Economic Intelligence and Innovation Management, a program ranked among the top ten in France in this field. In parallel with his professional career, he began a PhD in Political Economy of Communication at Sorbonne Paris Nord University in 2017, with his dissertation defense scheduled for September 2025.

Professional Background:

After completing his master’s degree in Economic Intelligence, Abdeldjalil began his career as an economic intelligence consultant at Data Observer, a company specialized in e-reputation monitoring and strategic consulting for large corporations.

In 2013, he joined the open-source software company XWiki as a functional consultant, working with major international groups.
In 2017, he founded Gari, a startup in Algeria dedicated to peer-to-peer parking space exchange, and started working as a digital strategy consultant for large companies.

Political background

Although he pursued academic training related to political science, Abdeldjalil never engaged in partisan politics. His active political involvement began in 2018 after meeting Zoubida Assoul. He participated in several citizen-led initiatives stemming from the Hirak movement, and joined the Union for Change and Progress (UCP) with other activists, in a citizen-driven rather than partisan approach.

He became head of communications for the UCP and coordinated Zoubida Assoul’s pre-campaign during the 2024 presidential election. During this time, he led the development of a citizen participation platform to collect ideas from the public, while pioneering the use of social media for gathering endorsements and recruiting new members.

Hirak:

On Friday, February 22, 2019, tens, hundreds, thousands, and eventually millions of Algerians, men and women of all ages, ideologies, and regions of Algeria, took control of their destiny. Zoubida Assoul was in the streets with the Algerian people who came out in political demonstrations demanding a radical change in the regime.

She called for more marches and joined the Mouwatana activists on Sunday, February 24, where she was detained by the police. Zoubida Assoul was held at the police station overnight. Upon her release, she was determined to defend the young Algerians as a lawyer.

Following the ban on the Amazigh flag in the protests and the subsequent arrests, she provided pro bono representation for over 150 prisoners of conscience in more than 40 wilayas (provinces).

She then defended political detainees such as Mohamed Tadjadit, Nacer Meghnine, El Hadi Laassouli, Nabil Mellah, and others.

During the trial of detainee Tadjadit, she compelled the judge to display the screen so that everyone in the courtroom could see it.

In February 2022, Zoubida Assoul proposed a roadmap by calling on Abdelmadjid Tebboune to overhaul the constitution and hold early presidential elections. The president of the UCP believes that the reasonable solution to the current political crisis in Algeria lies in organizing early presidential elections in 2022.

In April 2022, she was summoned by the police for participating in an official meeting with diplomats accredited by the Algerian state. She responded with a press release affirming that Algeria cannot live in autarky and that she will always defend Algeria’s sovereignty.
